The story of Nicki Scribbles

I grew up being called "Nicki." In fact, most of the people from my childhood still call me Nicki to this very day. For a number of years I could sort people into categories of when they must have met/known me by the name they called me. That was important because I have very few memories of my past and it seemed people often remembered me before I remembered them.

Only truth be told, I never liked the name "Nicki." I wasn't cute or perky, which I felt the name was. I was awkward, often working against my own fear, and usually the target of a bully or a mean girl. And, when I was called the name while in trouble, it was sharp, and made me wince.

But, when I started this painting journey, "Nicki" was who I was doing it for. An opportunity to make peace with, to sooth, and to release that awkward little girl who was afraid so often that she usually just blocked out what was happening. I wanted to give her something back. I knew it was a small gesture but sometimes that's all we need - just a scribble. And so, Nicki Scribbles was invited to craft a new story about who she was, and how her world should be.
